NWU alumnus and CEO of Eco-Agro Enterprise Pty Ltd, Dr Sydwell Sihlangu, who was the guest speaker at this event, spoke about academic entrepreneurship, which he described as a means of commercialisation, transforming knowledge into products, processes and organisations, thereby contributing to economic growth and innovation.

On 9 August 1956, some 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in protest against oppressive pass laws, refusing to be stopped in their pursuit for justice. They refused to conform with the status quo and fought for freedom in the face of a repressive government. This occasion brought the plight of African women to a sharp focus.
