BONUS - RUSTENBURG - The Safer School Awareness Campaign is an initiative of the Rustenburg Local Municipality, through Directorate Public Safety. The initiative, according to the municipality, aims to educate learners and the wider community about safety and crime prevention within schools. The campaign addresses various issues, such as substance abuse, bullying, gender-based violence, gangsterism, and even human trafficking. Key components include linking schools to local police stations through School Safety Committees, promoting protective behaviours like walking in groups, and fostering a collaborative approach to create a secure and inclusive learning environment.

The team recently conducted an awareness campaign at Naauwpoort Intermediate School. The campaign addressed various issues such as the afore mentioned substance abuse, bullying, gender-based violence, gangsterism, and human trafficking.
A total number of 700 learners were present and issues such as criminal activities, mental health, the Road Traffic Act, and taking part in sports to promote a healthy lifestyle were discussed.
Key role players in the campaign included the South African Police Service, Department of Correctional Service, Department of Health, Public Safety, and Maphiko Foundation.
