MAHIKENG MAIL - SETLAGOLE - Ratlou Mayor, Cllr Matlhomola Jafta, lived up to expectations when he officially declared two internal access roads open - paved roads to Tlhakajeng and Mathateng villages.

The two roads are part of the municipality’s accelerated service delivery drive undertaken since the dawn of the sixth administration.
One of the roads is the refurbished Tlhakajeng/Kraaipan link road that caught media attention after last year’s heavy downpours that exposed certain construction defects on the newly built road.
The defects were a result of poor workmanship by the initial contractor. The municipality made several attempts to engage the contractor who failed the project, and as a result, the municipality was left with no option but to consider appointing another contractor.
The repairs on the road cost the municipal purse an extra R4 million on top of the initial R8 million paid to the initial contractor.
Meanwhile, the community of Mathateng could not hide their excitement when the new road was officially opened. The road is part of the 2 km paved internal access roads built in Ward 1. The other km was recently opened in Mabule community. Both projects cost the municipality over R16 million. The communities of both villages were proud to enjoy economic spin-offs from the projects. Some took part as SMMEs, whilst some were employed to provide local labour.
