MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: The Mahikeng Local Municipality successfully evicted people who attempted to illegally occupy stands owned by the Municipality known as Erf 1317, Mafikeng last week.  
The municipality was granted an eviction order after having applied for the  interdict at Mahikeng High Court to remove the illegal occupants who had temporary erected poles to builds their shacks on.

 It was alleged that, there was some community members who sold municipal land and influencing the occupation of Erf 1317 but were stopped before erecting more structures on the land. The municipality indicated that it has earmarked on the property for development that will create employment, grow local economy and expand of the Municipal rates base. 
The municipality has facilitated these development proposals through donation and sale of erven (stands) on the property and these include: new UNISA Campus, Eskom Customer Care Centre and other job creating opportunities. 
Furthermore, the municipality intended on servicing (roads and storm-water, water, sanitation and electricity) the property to enable the aforementioned development proposals relating to Erf.1317. The municipality warned the Mahikeng residents to refrain from illegally allocating Municipal owned land which had undesired consequences.
