MAHIKENG MAIL - MONTSHIOA: A 44-year-old boyfriend who was arrested in connection with the murder of his 35-year-old girlfriend, abandoned his bail application in the Mmabatho Magistrates Court this week.
The accused boyfriend appeared before the court on Monday on a charge of murder.
This is after the community of Montshioa woke up to the tragic news following the murder of Kedilatile Seitshiro on Saturday morning. Family and friends expressed sorrow in an interview with Mahikeng Mail that Kedilatile had been in an abusive relationship.
According to family, Kedilatile was found lifeless on top of the bed at her family home, having suffered bruises to her face with suspicions of being struck with an object which was found next to her, leaving the family with emotional scars. The murder scene was also covered in blood.
In response, the angry community were up in arms, allegedly torching the family house in Maiphetlho Street near Montshioa Stadium. Public Order Police, who were alerted about the incident, rushed to the scene and fired rubber bullets to disperse the outraged crowd.
Speaking to Mahikeng Mail, Sivenathi Gunya of the National Prosecuting Authority in the North West said, “The matter against 44-year-old Themba Phakalane has been postponed to 26 March for further investigation. He abandoned his right to apply for bail.”
Meanwhile, North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has condemned acts of vigilantism in the strongest possible terms wherein unknown suspects allegedly torched the suspect’s family house. Maj Asaneng expressed his displeasure about the incident. He has pleaded with the members of the community to refrain from applying mob justice as it is unlawful, but to instead work with the recognised community structures including Community Police Forums (CPFs), in the fight against crime.
