MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: It came as no particular surprise that the North West Provincial Administration decided to appoint one of the province’s widely recognised hardworking public servants, Dr Auchalie Mothupi to drive service delivery development in the North West province.
Concerned by the ongoing outcry from local communities about the continues lack of service delivery projects in the province, Premier Lazarus Mokgosi chose Dr Mothupi to lead all service delivery programmes in the province in an acting position as Chief Director: Service Delivery, Monitoring and Intervention for a period of 12 months.
Confirming his appointment during an interview with Mahikeng Mail this week, Dr Mothupi said he regarded his new responsibilities as a confirmation by Premier Mokgotsi of his ability to both uplift the delivery of basic services and contribute meaningfully to the urgent need of improving service delivery in the province.
The man popularly known as “Mr Fix It” in municipal administration following his well-known performances at both Ratlou Local and Bojanala District Municipalities believes he can bring meaningful change in the delivery of much needed services to all government structures across the province.
“In my new position, I’m now on another level. I’ve changed into another uniform, which requires even harder work.
“People in the province have for years now complained about poor services at all government structures including at municipal level where the development of road infrastructure, delivery of water and sanitation and electricity supply continue to be worrying factors.
“We are going to work with speed to ensure that we respond to our people’s calls for improvement of service like street lights, fixing of potholes and other service delivery related issues.
“The Task Force or Rapid Technical Response Team has arrived to ensure that everyone responsible for service delivery programmes get involved in serving our people. Lack of service delivery usually leads to an increase in criminal activities resulting from unemployment in communities.
“Much money is spent on fighting litigation when people are illegally suspended. People must find innovative and creative ways to help uplift service delivery programmes,” Dr Mothupi said.
As one of his first assignments, Dr Mothupi announced that his team will relaunch the Call Centre at Premier Mokgosi’s Office where residents affected by poor service delivery issues in their areas, wcan report these challenges and get immediate attention.
“We are certain that through the centre, our communities will report and raise their concerns which we hope to address urgently. We must create a caring government which addresses the needs of the people set on a stable and sound leadership - both politically and administrative.
There is no denying the fact that like the rest of the country, the North West province faces serious lack of proper services in all sectors of governance. We will travel the length and breadth of the province to inspect service delivery projects and address communities’ concerns. People must not call for services, services must be brought to the people,” added Dr Mothupi.
