RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In a tragic accident that occurred at Keystone Milling on Wednesday, 26 June at approximately 12:00, two construction workers paid with their lives when a wall collapsed onto them as they were working.
According to an employee of Keystone Milling, a maize production business, a private construction company was building a ramp and wall of approximately five meters high, when something that felt and sounded “like an earthquake” rocked the ground. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the wall next to the ramp had collapsed, trapping two of the workers under the rubble.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite the presence of Eagle Trauma Rescue, the Rustenburg Fire Department, and local police the two workers could not be saved. The site was inspected by Public Safety and Disaster Management on the day of the collapse and the Department of Labour is now also partaking in the investigation in an attempt to piece together the chain of events. According to Colonel Adele Myburgh of the South African Police Service, identification of the deceased has still not been established.
Thehan Uys, General Manager of Sales and Marketing of Keystone Milling, expressed his shock over the tragedy: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and the families of the deceased are in our prayers.” Workers of both Keystone Milling and the construction company have been offered counselling to cope with the aftermath of these traumatic events.
