RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In a crime ridden country, some of us may have become complacent and even a bit lax, but according to recent reports by the South Arican Police Service (SAPS), theft of motor vehicles has seen a sharp increase in the last few weeks, and the community is warned to remain vigilant in this regard.
The most commonly targeted vehicles include Toyota Quantum mini-buses, Fortuners, Hilux bakkies, Volkswagen Polos, Nissan NP 200 bakkies and Ford Ranger bakkies. Many of the thefts occurred out of shopping mall parking areas, at mining sectors and from residential addresses.
The public is urged to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and/or persons and to apply safety measures, in order not to fall victim to these crimes.
Safety tips on how to prevent motor vehicle theft:
* Always lock your car and keep your keys safe
* Don’t leave valuables in plain sight
* Install a car alarm, immobiliser and/or apply a steering wheel lock
* Consider mounting a dashboard camera
* Inspect your car for any tampering or suspected break-ins
* Obtain comprehensive insurance to insure coverage against damage and/or theft.
Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
