RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Residents of Zinniaville and in particular the Zinniaville Ratepayers Association have been in the news lately following a peaceful demonstration at Missionary Mpheni House on 4 October in protest against the Zinniaville community's water woes of the past year or two. Though the demonstration of 4 October served as an opportunity to present a memorandum of grievances to the Rustenburg Municipality's Executive Mayor, the ZRPA were later only received by Mr Thabang Rampou - Member of the Mayoral Committee on Infrastructure who responded to say that the RLM will provide details of how the water issue could be addressed amicably within 14 days.
To the surprise of the Zinniaville Ratepayers Association at a Mayoral Imbizo with the Executive Mayor, several units managers and members of the Mayoral Committee, no directives could be given however on the Zinniaville water situation on exactly the same day that saw the 14 days period expiring.
What awaits Zinniaville for the next few weeks is yet unknown and community members are waiting anxiously to hear how the crisis would be resolved. Meanwhile, it's no news that the Zinniaville community's infrastructure as far as roads and walkways are concerned, are considered to be very close to total collapse. Rustenburg Herald went to investigate last Friday morning, and was pleasantly surprises to be met by municipal personnel with equipped with a road grader and relevant machinery and immediately began to repair road surfaces, pavements, walkways and potholes in the Zinniaville area. Verbena Street immediately behind the Zinniaville Shopping Complex was the first area where repair work began. Here the remnants of what once was a road, could hardly be seen when the operation kicked off on 09:00 last Friday morning. Rustenburg Herald was met by Cllr Luan Snyders - DA Councillor for Ward 43 who has fought tooth and nail during past months to have the plight of the Zinniaville community brought to the attention of the Rustenburg Municipality. "Although Zinniaville's water woes are still very far from being addressed, we are indeed grateful to see RLM turning up and repairing some of the worst streets and road surfaces in the area. A follow-up site visit and report will be released on the matter very shortly," Snyders concluded.
