RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Two Lesotho nationals (both males) were expected to appear on charges of murder and attempted murder in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Phokeng after the two men were arrested in Tlhabane’s Yizo-Yizo settlement on Sunday evening.
The murders were allegedly committed in Kanana near Klerksdorp earlier this month. The two suspects were also found in possession of a firearm and ammunition according to the police.
The men’s arrest emanated after an exchange of information between both the Station Commanders of Tlhabane and Kanana SAPS following a tip-off. A successful tactical operation led by Colonel David Moagi assisted by various other police units, resulted in the arrest of both suspects inside a wendy house and in possession of a 9 mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition, according to police reports.
It is alleged that the two suspects were involved in the murder of eight people and eleven attempted murder cases earlier this month at a tavern in Kanana outside Klerksdorp. The suspects have been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and contravention of the Immigration Act. The Acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, commended the police for acting swiftly and arresting the suspects. She said that the police would continue to work hard to make sure that criminals are brought to book.
