RUSTENBURG HERALD - PHOKENG - On Saturday, 19 October, fifteen excited members of Happy Feet Ballet (hip-hop category) were awarded their North West colours in Dance Sport in the auditorium at Lebone College II. Nasha Marais, Managing Director of Happy Feet, opened the proceedings stating that she was “incredibly proud” of the dancers and that they should all be “grateful to celebrate” their achievement as they are “doing what they love”.

“We are beyond proud to announce that our incredible dancers have officially received their North West Colours in Dance Sport and were proudly capped this morning,” the academy commented on Facebook.
The young participants will take part in the Street Dance Association Dance Sport School League tournament from 25 - 27 October in Claremont in the Western Cape, in the hip-hop category. Marais urged the young contenders to “be kind and respectful to their team mates at Nationals” and also congratulated their Coach, Melissa Pace, on the momentous achievement.
The dancers were awarded in the u/9, u/11 and u/17 age divisions, as Marais stated that they were bringing to life the “vibrant spirit of street dance culture. This is a movement that empowers individuals, and we honour them for their creativity and commitment.”
After awarding of their certificates, attendees were treated to finger eats and fresh juice, followed by an improvised dance routine to entertain the audience. The definitive moment, however, was the handing over of their 2024 Protea tracksuits and “battle kits”. “We are so excited for them and cannot wait to see them shine on the national stage!” concluded Marais.
