RUSTENBURG HERALD - ORKNEY - The first round of the battle of the clubs was completed with resounding success at the Vaal River Boating Club on Sunday, 19 May.
The event started with the 60km mini long haul, that was run up and down the river in an exciting race. Jono Schmidt (M35) who showed some incredible high speeds, unfortunately had to pull out of the race because of a cracked block. This caused a damper on the event, as everybody was waiting to see the long-awaited challenge between him and the current world champion, Klerksdorp adrenaline, junkie Renier le Roux.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - ZWARTKOPS - Warm autumn skies greeted spectators and competitors alike on Saturday, 18 May, when the National Extreme Festival made its way to Zwartkops Raceway for the third round of the 2024 season.
For Rustenburg's Pocket Rocket - Michael van Rooyen - the day ended as a memorable one, since it's been quite some time since Van Rooyen found himself up on the winners podium.  Robert Wolk (Chemical Logistics BMW 128ti) had no sooner led the South African Touring Cars field away from pole position when the safety car was deployed to allow the marshals to recover Roberto Franco’s Graphix Supply World Polo SupaCup from the gravel trap on the exit of the first turn.

Well-known former Rustenburg cyclist Louis Meintjes has made international headlines last week when he won his second World Tour Classification race by finishing first during Stage 4 of the “Tour of Basque Country”. The victory during Stage 4 followed on the heels of Louis’ victory and a second place in two consecutive King of the Mountain disciplines earlier in the race. For the Rustenburg cycling fraternity the good news is that Louis might be taking part in his umpteenth Tour de France in July this year after Louis was seriously injured and had to abandon the 2023 TDF.
