Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Heritage day was celebrated in Klerksdorp at Goudkoppie He-ritage Hill where Matlosana Executive Mayor, Fikile Mahlophe, said residents must explore heritage sites in our area.
He was joined by Rathebe Mojaki, founder of the Leano La Bophelo project who revamped Goudkoppie to its former glory as a facility embracing the heritage and history of Klerksdorp alongside Klerksdorp Museum. Goudkoppie will also be known as an information hub for tourists to the area. Mayor Mahlophe was accompanied by Speaker Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya and MMCs.
Lesotho man arrested in Kanana
Lentswe, Klerksdorp- A Lesotho man was arrested in Kanana for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, said the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Potchefstroom Public Order Police (POP) and Stilfontein K9 Unit arrested a 39-year-old Lesotho foreign national at Ext 3, Kanana for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition during a crime intelligence driven operation on September 19 and 20. “During the arrest, the team confiscated a pistol with 15 ammunition and a magazine. In addition, the members nabbed a Lesotho foreign national, aged 31, for contravention of the Immigration Act. He was scheduled to appear in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday September 23.”
Zama-zama caught with gold in hair
Lentswe, Stilfontein - A dozen illegal miners that were caught underground at a mine shaft near Stilfontein are still being detained. Last week Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, confirmed that the Zama-Zamas were arrested at the same shift. Mine security apprehended the first group of trespassers on Thursday September 19. One of them had unwrought gold hidden inside his dreadlocks. “Police were called to a local mine shaft, after mine security reported that they apprehended illegal miners on level 10.
Offenders’ family day an emotional affair
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp Correctional Centre was filled with emotions and joy during the Offenders’ Family Day on Heritage Day.
The event was aimed at strengthening family bonds and supporting the rehabilitation of offenders. Excited family members were welcomed by the unit manager, Boatile van Wyk who highlighted the importance of maintaining strong family ties in the journey toward rehabilitation, reminding everyone that family is a key pillar in supporting the positive reintegration of offenders back into society.
Heritage month special at Holy Family
Lentswe, Jouberton - The Anglican Church Holy Family is selling tickets for their Heritage Day event on Sunday September 29. Visitors can expect a cultural day with moribo music and a traditional meal. A morning market will also be held that is organised by the Men’s Worship team. Everyone is welcome to attend at church.
