MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the North West last week Friday submitted a memorandum of demands to the Office of Premier Lazarus Mokgosi regarding the ongoing challenges and high unemployment rate in the province.
The DA called for the Premier to take urgent action to address the province’s escalating unemployment crisis with an expanded unemployment rate of 56% and over 57 000 job losses recorded in the most recent quarter - yet no provincial jobs plan, no economic recovery roadmap and no transparency on job-creating investments have been put forward. The DA’s memorandum outlined five-point Jobs and Economic Rescue Plan, including: Declaring unemployment a provincial disaster; Establishing a Premier-led Youth Employment War Room; Adopting a turnaround jobs plan with measurable indicators; Prioritising infrastructure to unlock growth and Releasing quarterly public reports on investment projects and job creation.
“We call on the Premier and his Executive to respond within 30 days with concrete action. This was not just a march, it is a call to action. The people of the North West deserve jobs, dignity, and hope for a better future. The DA will continue to fight for this, in every legislature chamber, committee, and community.
Receiving the memorandum to the Office of the Premier, MEC Wessels Management, called on political parties to come on board and collectively address joblessness in the province. “We are a Government of National Unity (GNU) and we do have Ministers of national departments from different political parties. We must work as a collective to resolve this matter and create jobs for all South Africans,” said MEC Morweng.
