MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Dr Desbo Mohono, has concluded a week-long visit to China where she attended the 15th China Henan International Investment and Trade Fair (CHIITF).
Dr Mohono emphasised the importance of promoting cooperation and development between South Africa and China.

She highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries which have led to significant trade partnerships with China becoming SA’s biggest trading partner since 2010.
The Speaker gave a keynote address at the Trade Fair, where she emphasised the strategic partnership between South Africa and China. She noted that the partnership has led to the signing of an MOU between the Henan and North West Provinces, which aims to promote collaboration and development.
She further expressed her hope that the partnership would attract investment to expand agro-processing, manufacturing and create industrial hubs in the North West Province.
The North West Province faces significant challenges including a high unemployment rate of 54.7% which mostly affects young people and women. Dr Mohono believes that leveraging the industries of Henan Province could help address these challenges.
She proposed attracting investment, expanding agro-processing and manu-facturing and investing in youth skills to stimulate sustainable socio-economic growth.
During her visit, Dr Mohono met with the Chairman of Henan Provincial People’s Congress, Mr Ya Li, to discuss law-making, oversight and public participation in governance. The two provinces emphasised the need to collaborate to promote development and growth.
