MAKGOBISTAD: 26 February 2024:- Amid the scorching sun due to recent increase in temperatures, community members could not be deterred as they come out in numbers to bear witness to the long awaited sod-turning and handover of the contractor for the 2 km long concrete stock-bricks internal link road to Ga-Ra Gaetsalwe in Makgobistad.
The Tribal Hall was fully packed to capacity with locals whom wanted to hear for themselves what the project holds for them.
The Mayor of Ratlou Local Municipality; Cllr. Matlhomola Jafta accompanied by the Municipal Manager Mr Lloyd Leoko, MMC for Infrastructure Cllr Thabo Motlapele, the local ward Cllr Douglas Gaasenwe and the local PR Councillor, Cllr Kerotse Sechele. Mayor Jafta and the local paramount chief, Kgosi Odirile Motseoakhumo led the official sod- turning of the internal link road in Makgobistad this afternoon. When Handing over the construction company Mellow Motion and Tshiamo Graphics whom had formed a joint venture, Mayor Matlhomola Jafta urged the community to give support to the contractor and his team. During his address Municipal Manager Mr Lloyd Leoko took the community through what is expected to unfold and also outlined the entire project plan, Leoko said, the 11, 5 Million Rand worth concrete paved blocks link road, is expected to be completed by October this year.
The project is expected to create job opportunities for at least ten (10) local people, a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) and one sub construction opportunity effectively. Kgosi Motseoakhumo also pleads with the community not to cause delay or any stoppage to the construction of the much needed road due to issues that can easily be resolved by parties involved. The project forms part of the marathon Municipal Infrastructure Grant projects that the Ratlou Council under the stewardship of Mayor Jafta resolved to unleashed.
