MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The residents of Riviera Park and Golf View suburbs are up in arms about the unacceptable state of government houses in their neighbourhoods.
Angry residents told Mahikeng Mail this week that state properties have been neglected for far too long and that there were signs that the unoccupied and ransacked properties would not be maintained.
Many of the houses are dilapidated, with broken windows, crumbling walls, damaged and uprooted roofs with leaking water running from the houses to the streets. The situation is not only unsightly, but it’s also a safety concern for the residents.
To make matters worse, some of these neglected houses have become hot-spots for criminal activity. Vandals/criminals are continuously breaking into properties and using these as hideouts. This has led to an increase in crime in the area and residents are living in fear. The tall grass, in overgrown yards surrounding the houses, only add to the sense of neglect and abandonment.
Residents are calling on the authorities to take immediate action to address this situation. They’re demanding that the houses be repaired, maintained, and secured to prevent further vandalism and criminal activity. The residents of Riviera and Golf View insist that they deserve to live in safe and well-maintained neighbourhoods, and that it’s time for the government to step up and take responsibility for its properties.
