MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: The ANCYL has expressed deep concern about the ongoing sewer spillage in Ramosadi and Seweding Villages (Ward16and 20) and called on Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Khumalo Molefe to relocate his office to Ramosadi and Seweding Villages to get first-hand experience about the frustrations of local communities living daily in the horrible stench resulted by the burst sewer pipe and until he has completely repaired the damaged sewage pipes that have over six months affected the health of residents.
The call comes after ongoing protest actions against the municipality with residents calling for the speedy resolution of the problem and for the municipal institution to address the service delivery challenges and repairing the sewage spillage calamity in villages.
As part of their demands, the youth league said, “the mayor must leave his air-conditioned office for week so that he can feel the pain the community went through”. In the press briefing held at Gertrude Mphekwa House, the ANCYL said the inability of the District Municipality as a water service authority to resolve the crisis bothered on human rights infringements and dignity of the people of Ramosadi and Seweding. “We are particularly concerned about the sewer spillage around the area of Seweding in Mafikeng sub-region. This sewer has for a prolonged period subjected our people to disgusting living conditions, the community together with the regional structure of the ANCYL has protested, canvassing for a speedy resolution of the matter.
“The District Municipality of Ngaka Modiri Molema which is responsible for the provision of water and sanitation has constantly demonstrated lack of concern or interest to resolve the said sewer problem. The ANCYL is mostly concerned by a clear lack of political will to attend to issues which are troubling our people.
“It is for this reason that the ANCYL NW calls on the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality Executive Mayor Comrade Khumalo Molefe to temporarily relocate his office to Ramosadi and Seweding Villages until the sewer spillage is completely attended to. This will bring him and his office closer to the pain felt daily by our people. “Failure by the mayor to do this, the ANCYL will be left with no choice other than to call for his removal. We cannot continue business as usual when we fail to deliver basic services to our people. The ANCYL will further identify areas wherein our people have endured lack of services at the hands of lazy councilors”.
The ANCLY who was supported by the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) at the briefing with SANCO indicated that they would organise another community protest action to intensify their call on addressing the Sewage spillage.
