MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: DEDECT commenced its new year’s Thuntsha Lerole activities with the handing over of renewed liquor licenses to license holders from Khuma and Jouberton locations at the local police station.

This handing over serves as a follow-up of TO the 2024/25 Liquor License Renewal Outreach Programme, which runs from 7 October 2024 to 6 February 2025. The follow-up aims to accommodate liquor traders who were unable to attend the initial outreach programme for Matlosana, held from 11–15 November 2024, due to other commitments.
In addition to the liquor license handover, the day’s activities included the presentation of certificates of  recognition to local environmental clubs, including Khuma Primary School, Tlhaho-Invelo, Revolutionaries, Hata Butle, Dirang Ka Natla, and Thusanang.
These clubs were recognised for their active participation in environmental activities, their outstanding environmental awareness initiatives, and their efforts in establishing and maintaining vegetable gardens. The clubs were also acknowledged for hosting impactful events such as World Environment Day celebrations and waste management workshops.
These environmental clubs, coordinated and supported by DEDECT, operate within schools and communities, acting as ambassadors for the National Green Programme (NGP). They play a vital role in environmental conservation, natural resource management, food security promotion, and climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
As part of their support, DEDECT officials donated wheelie bins, bulk bags for recyclable material collection and fruit trees to the Khuma Primary School Environmental Club to empower it further in its initiatives.
The department also undertook enforcement of the North West Gambling Board Act, during which NWGB Inspectors confiscated seven illegal gambling machines from 38 tuck shops inspected in the area. These activities were preceded by a joint Cooperatives Compliance Workshop held by DEDECT in collaboration with SEDFA, SARS and Municipal LED Officials at the SEDFA Offices in Klerksdorp.
