MAHIKENG MAIL – POTCHEFSTROOM - North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Wessels Morweng awarded South African Police Service members for their hard work, courage and excellence in the fight against crime.
In his address at the ceremony held in Potchefstroom last week,  MEC Morweng encouraged members to keep doing a good job and to remain true to the pledge of the badge.

“Today we honour all of you whose contributions are often overlooked, yet they silently and astutely put the people of the Republic first.
“Continue to endure the scorn and never allow yourselves to lose temper in the face of provocation,” said Morweng in appreciating and encouraging police to remain steadfast in the fight against crime and creating a safer and secured environment for people of the North West province.
The excellence awards are held to recognise and acknowledge men and women in blue, including support staff, in their execution of their daily duties and beyond.
These awards are also meant to encourage and re-enforce a culture of excellence, exceptional conduct, and professionalism within the SAPS towards creating a safer and secured environment.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena said the awards are designed to thank members for the job well done. “Your tireless efforts cannot go unnoticed, hence these awards to say to our members that we are full of pride and appreciate the good work you are doing,” said General Kwena. During the ceremony, about 20 retirees received awards for their loyal and dedicated years of service by the Provincial Commissioner.
Amongst them, were Brigadier Steven Moodley and Colonel Hennie Kriel who both have 41 years of loyal service. Some members received awards for the following catergories: Administration Employee of the Year, Visible Policing Employee of the Year, Operations Member of the Year, Detective Service Employee of the Year, Forensic Service Employee of the Year and Crime Intelligence Employee of the Year.
