STELLALANDER-TAUNG: On Saturday, 30 August 2025, the community of Buxton, Taung and surrounding areas came together for a successful clean-up campaign at Thomeng, popularly known as “Small Heaven.”
The initiative, led by local youth, was self-funded, with community members contributing what resources they could to protect and restore this important tourist attraction.

The campaign not only focused on cleaning the area but also aimed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. The site faces ongoing challenges due to the lack of toilets and dustbins, despite being regularly visited by both locals and tourists. Community leaders are calling on the Department of Environment and other stakeholders to support such initiatives and explore ways to create sustainable employment. They suggest hiring local youth to maintain Thomeng and other attractions, such as Blue Pool, offering work opportunities while preserving these natural heritage sites. While the community respects the diverse spiritual practices that take place at Thomeng, they appeal to both government and private investors to help ensure the area remains clean and safe for all visitors. The clean-up campaign highlights the unity and commitment of Buxton residents to protecting their natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
