STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital in Vryburg commenced with their first male medical circumcision programme on Wednesday, 17 January 2024.

The acting Assistant Director: Casualty and Outpatient Department, Mr Tshepo Setlhabe, highlighted that “Our first patients were delighted about their experiences prior and post operation. They commended the hospital health team for smooth, pain free and quick procedure, in addition to reducing pain and fear”.
The hospital encourages members of the public to book for circumcision from as early as ten years and only five patients per week, on Wednesday only, will be taken for a procedure.
The medical benefits of circumcision include, improved personal hygiene, less risk of infections and contracting HIV. Furthermore circumcision prevents complications such as balanitis, paraphimosis and phimosis.
The hospital emphasis that circumcision does not make anyone immune or act as a preventative measure from contracting HIV/AIDS. “It is still important to always use contraceptives to protect yourself and your partner from contracting sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy”, concluded Setlhabe.
