STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: As the Holiday Season phase of Operation Shanela II begins, North West police are calling on residents to remain alert and exercise caution at home, in shopping centres, at tourist destinations, and while travelling on major freeways, provincial routes and tourist corridors.
The festive period is traditionally associated with increased crime and alcohol-related incidents. Police are therefore urging the public to act responsibly and to remain aware of their surroundings.
Motorists, in particular, are reminded to stay vigilant, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and adhere strictly to all road traffic regulations. In terms of liquor control, the North West Liquor Licensing Act of 2016 outlines the rules governing the responsible sale and consumption of alcohol. Law enforcement officers will continue to intensify inspections and will not hesitate to act against any business or individual found violating licensing conditions.
With schools closing soon for the holidays, authorities stress the importance of safeguarding school premises against vandalism and burglaries. Community cooperation is essential, and residents are encouraged to work closely with School Governing Bodies (SGBs), Community Police Forums (CPFs) and local police to ensure that schools remain secure. This will help ensure that learners return in 2026 to facilities that are intact and ready for uninterrupted teaching and learning.
