STELLALANDER-GANYESA: A multidisciplinary police team investigating the murder of 41-year-old off-duty Constable Eric Tekolo made a breakthrough with the arrest of three suspects on Saturday, 05 April 2025.

Constable Tekolo, a member stationed at Bray police station, was found with multiple stab wounds on Friday evening, 04 April 2025, in the Phohung Section of Ganyesa village. He was rushed to a local clinic but sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Police investigations led to the arrest of three suspects, aged 19, 23, and 25. Some of the victim’s stolen belongings, including his cell phone and groceries, were recovered during the operation. The three suspects, Karabo Kunene (25), Taolo Sebolai (23), and Boikanyo Setlhabetsi (19), appeared before the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 April 2025. They have been remanded in custody until Wednesday, 16 April 2025, for a formal bail application. They face charges of murder and robbery. North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the murder, highlighting the disturbing trend of youth involvement in violent crime and substance abuse. “This senseless, barbaric murder is a stark reminder of the moral decay in society, fueled by alcohol abuse,” said Asaneng. “We have lost not only a dedicated police officer but also a community servant and a breadwinner to his family. The suspects have brought pain to their own families and to the loved ones and colleagues of Constable Tekolo.” The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is continuing with investigations.
