STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed that Vryburg will be the permanent home of the revived North West Agricultural Show, set to take place from Thursday,18 to Saturday, 20 September.
Announcing the preparations at a media briefing in Naledi on Saturday, MEC Madoda Sambatha described the event as a “strategic intervention, an economic lever, a developmental platform, and a celebration of the agricultural heartbeat of our province.”
The three-day show, returning with expanded scope and renewed energy, will bring together farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, and communities from across the province and the SADC region. MEC Sambatha said the decision to permanently base the show in Vryburg was both symbolic and strategic, citing the town’s deep agricultural roots, fertile land, and strong farming traditions. “Vryburg is no longer just a place where farming happens, it is now the beating heart of a province serious about food security, rural development, and economic transformation,” he said. The MEC emphasized that the event is expected to generate jobs, boost local businesses, and increase tourism, while giving farmers access to new markets and investment opportunities. From next year, each district in the North West will host its own build-up agricultural show, culminating in the main provincial showcase in Vryburg. According to MEC Sambatha, this “layered approach” will ensure that farmers of all scales, from emerging producers to commercial leaders, have opportunities to participate, connect with stakeholders, and showcase their work. A key focus of the show will be on small-scale and emerging farmers. MEC Sambatha stressed that inclusivity remains central to the province’s agricultural development plans. “We are creating direct opportunities for small producers to engage with buyers, financial institutions, and investors,” he said. “Our vision is to build an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable agricultural sector in the North West.” The show will feature exhibitions of produce and livestock, demonstrations of new farming technologies, and youth-focused programmes aimed at inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders. “This is more than an exhibition, it is proof that when government, farmers, researchers, and private sector players work together, we can build an agricultural economy that feeds our people, creates jobs, and uplifts rural communities,” Sambatha said. The MEC confirmed that logistical arrangements are in place and partnerships secured to ensure the success of the 2025 event. He thanked the organising team for their dedication and called on farmers, agripreneurs, and private sector partners to rally behind the initiative. “The North West is open for growth, open for innovation, and open for business,” Sambatha declared. “Together, we will make this province a centre of excellence in farming, food production, and agricultural innovation.” Visitors to the show can expect exhibitions with exciting products on display, fun rides for children in the rides park and a galore of food stalls to tantalize each tastebud. Farming machinery will also be on display. Entry to the show is free, so come and enjoy a renewed show with new vibes on Vryburg soil.
