BRITS POS – MARIKANA – On Monday, 19 August around 18:00 an armed Cash-in-Transit robbery took place along the N4 Bakwena Highway near Marikana, west of Brits.
Residents could hear volleys of shots being fired.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, spokesperson for SAPS Hawks North West, two security officers were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. According to information, the officers were driving to Rustenburg on the N4 road near the Marikana off-ramp when a black Mercedes Benz hit the cash in transit truck from the back and forced it off the road.
MINOR ARRESTED In possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition
BRITS POS – KLIPGAT – A 15-year-old learner had been arrested on Wednesday, 14 August, by Klipgat police after he was found in possession of a firearm and six live rounds of ammunition.
According to information, police were dispatched to the school following the call from the principal. On arrival, the principal showed the police a firearm, ammunition as well as the learner who was allegedly found in possession of the items. The learner allegedly told the police that the firearm belongs to his brother who has gone missing.
OPERATION SHANELA Excellent work done by law enforcement agencies
BRITS POS – BRITS – SAPS units and other law enforcement agencies were commended by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena for the success of Operation Shanela that resulted in the arrests of 828 suspects for various crimes in North West between Monday, 12 and Sunday, 18 August 2024.
The suspects were amongst others, arrested for rape, murder, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, burglary residential and business premises, possession of drugs, theft out of/from motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Employees in court for business robbery
BRITS POS – BRITS – A shop manager and an employee at a store in Brits Mall, appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court Wednesday, 7 August, in connection with an alleged business robbery at Brits Mall.
Reborn Chiloane (31) and Regomoditswe Mmethi (29) were both employees at the shop where the robbery took place. According to information received, the shop had just opened on Monday, 29 July 2024 at about 08:00 and the employees were still entering the shop, when two suspects came inside the shop and threatened them with firearms.
OPERATION SHANELA - More than 800 suspects arrested
BRITS POS – BRITS – More than 800 suspects were arrested for various crimes in another successful Operation Shanela.
Police in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and other role players, including Traffic Police, Department of Education, Transnet, the Gambling Board, Community Police Forums (CPF’s), Private security companies, ESKOM and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) continue with weekly operations to prevent and combat crime.
