RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Glencore Ferroalloys, Wonderkop Smelter, has announced a significant donation to the Residentia Sering, an old age home based in Rustenburg, as they aim to provide essential electricity supply to the elderly as well as a frail care unit.
The initiative assists in ensuring the old age home has uninterrupted access to electricity, particularly for vital medical equipment such as oxygen machines.

The solar power supply station will not only ensure continuous power supply for the elderly residents of Residentia Sering, but also contribute to reducing the home's dependence on traditional energy sources, therefore promoting environmental sustainability.
"We are immensely thankful to Glencore for their generous donation of the solar power supply station. This contribution not only ensures the provision of electricity during load shedding but also relieves the pressure on our facilities, especially concerning the medical needs of our elderly residents. It's a gesture that will undoubtedly improve their quality of life,” said Lisa van Zyl, Manager at Residentia Sering.
Residentia Sering, home to over 130 elders, faces the challenge of regular load shedding, which can worsen health concerns for those reliant on electricity-powered medical devices. Glencore's donation of a solar power supply station addresses these critical needs, going above and beyond a simple charitable act.
"At Glencore, we recognise the importance of supporting communities, particularly during challenging times. We are proud to contribute to the well-being of the Residentia Sering old age home and its elderly residents. This initiative demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sustaining and impacting the community we exist in," said Christo Schoonbee, Electrical Engineer at Wonderkop Smelter.
The 150kVA PV solar system could have a backup power supply of up to 4-5 hours of electricity for Residentia Sering. They solar panels capture energy from the sun by means of the photovoltaics process and converts it into 240kW battery energy.
The donation of the solar power supply station stands as a testament to Glencore Ferroalloys' dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of those in need, demonstrating the company's values of community support and environmental caregiving.
