RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for a spate of burglaries he committed in uptown Rustenburg beween 2019 and 2022. 
Thabang Pogiso Tshidiso Modise appeared in the Rustenburg Regional Court on Friday, 30 August 2024 when he was sentenced. 

Modise, currently serving two years for escaping from lawful custody earlier this year, was further sentenced to four years imprisonment

on the second count of house breaking with intent to steal and theft, while on the third count of possession of stolen property, he was sentenced to three months imprisonment - both these sentenced are to be served concurrently, Sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi, Sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi, SAPS Spokesperson in the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 told Rustenburg Herald on Tuesday this week. 
During the trial, it was established that Modise also has a pending murder case of an elderly man that he allegedly assaulted during one of the burglaries in 2022. The elderly man who was with his wife at the time, subsequently succumbed to his injuries and passed away a few days later. 
The Acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Commisioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, commended the investigating officer detective Sergeant Morogwa Makhoye for her persistence in ensuring that Modise was apprehended and ultimately sentenced.
