RUSTENBURG HERALD - POTCHEFSTROOM - In a glamorous ceremony to salute and acknowledge members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, numerous officers and employees were awarded as winners in more than 40 categories on Friday, 18 October during the 12th annual Service Excellence Awards event held at the Elgro Hotel. Furthermore, 20 retirees were celebrated for their faithful service.

In terms of Platina region awardees, the Senior Operational Manager for Policing award, was scooped by Brigadier Ntoagae, the current acting District Commissioner at Bojanala Sub-District 2 (Rustenburg). She had an overall decrease in the total of reported cases in the district, indicating effective crime management and imple-mentation of strategies. She made a significant impact in stabilising serious and violent crimes. Boitekong Station was awarded the Station of the Year. The station personnel worked together to achieve the common goal of fighting property related crimes and crimes dependent on police action. The station received a performance rating of five - the highest. New Strategies were also implemented to successfully complete tasks.
Sergeant EM Morakabi from Jouberton was awarded as Woman of the Year for going beyond the call of duty by conducting 33 social crime prevention awareness activities in Jouberton in conjunction with other stakeholders.
Brigadier Anre Wagner received the award for Senior Administration Manager of the Year. He is the Section Head at Legal Services and responsible for legal support to operational functions in the North West Province. 
Captain Sam Tselanyane received the award for Man of the Year. He managed the Communication Nodal Point, released 75 media statements in the review period and conducted 48 radio interviews in several languages. 
Reservist Constable SR Makabe from Mahikeng was awarded as Reservist of the year. He worked 489 hours in a year, which is three times more than what is expected of him - without payment. He arrested 41 suspects, recovered three stolen firearms and 11 cellular phones, cash and other stolen property.
Sgt KG Mosiatlhaga was the Sport Man of the Year as he participated and did extremely well in four different races including the Comrades Marathon and Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, where he received silver medals. 
The Person with Disability of the Year was awarded to Sergeant Mammie Tselanyane. She is disabled due to systematic Lupus Erythematosus, but this does not stop her from performing her duties in Potchefstroom Community Service Centre. She opened case dockets, certified documents and performed other administrative duties. She provided professional community policing support at the Frontline Desk and in the Radio Control Room. 
Sergeant Setlolamathe was announced as the winner for the Community Police Forum (CPF) of the Year. He ensured that the CPF, sub-forums, youth Crime Desk and Community in Blue Patrollers are functional and active.
The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng, congratulated members on their achievements and acknowledged them for their services. He said: “Today we honour all of you whose contributions are often overlooked, yet they silently and astutely put the people of the Republic first.” 
The Provincial Commissioner also awarded special awards:
*Colonel MF Mfuloane at Boitekong station for leadership and excellence in the operational environment
*Captain MN Bodiba at Mothotlung station for leadership and excellence in the operational environment
*Colonel PC van Loggenberg for leadership and excellence in legal support
*Messenger AI Assegaai from Provincial Auxilliary Service for commitment and dedication in service rendering
*Cleaner BE Monamodi for commitment and dedication in cleaning excellence.
