RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In an ongoing effort to enhance safety and order, the South African Police Service (SAPS), in collaboration with the Rustenburg Local Municipality and various stakeholders, successfully executed their weekly “Safer City” operations.
These efforts have primarily focused on maintaining law and order within the Central Business District (CBD). The latest operation, which took place on Friday, saw the enforcement of municipal bylaws, with a significant focus on removing illegal structures, particularly at the taxi rank.
The authorities demonstrated their commitment to curb lawlessness by demolishing unauthorised setups that obstructed public spaces. The operation also led to several arrests, including thirteen individuals for contravening the Immigration Act. Additionally, arrests were made for possession of stolen goods and attempted bribery, further showcasing the multifaceted nature of the operation. Traffic officials were equally active, issuing fines amounting to over R24 000 for various violations.
Brigadier Selala Pheto, the Rustenburg Station Commander, commended the co-ordinated efforts of all the stakeholders involved. He expressed his gratitude for their support and emphasised that these operations will only intensify in the coming weeks, as they aim to restore order and ensure the safety of all residents in Rustenburg.
This ongoing initiative forms part of a broader strategy to address crime, improve urban management, and foster a safer environment for businesses and residents alike.
