RUSTENBURG HERALD - MAHIKENG - A twenty eight year-old man of North West - Matlhogonolo Katong (28) appeared before the Mmabatho Magistrates' Court on Monday, 18 March 2024 on a charge of Illegal Possession of diamonds.
His arrest emanates from information received by the Mahikeng based Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team pertaining to a suspect who was alleged to be in possession of uncut diamonds and looking for a buyer.
Accused remanded in custody for unlawful possession of firearm and electronic jamming device
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - A 29-year-old man - Letlhogonolo Mokati - was remanded in custody upon appearance in the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 18 March 2024, on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of an electronic jamming device.
He is expected to make a second court appearance on Friday, 22 March 2024, for formal bail application North West Police told Rustenburg Herald. Mokati was arrested on Friday, 15 March 2024, during a Crime Intelligence driven operation by the Rustenburg Public Order Police (POP), Tlhabane Visible Policing, Rustenburg Flying Squad and District Detectives, after information regarding individuals involved in a spate of hijackings around Rustenburg was operationalised.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile visits Bojanala Platinum District Municipalities
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Bojanala Platinum District Municipality became a hive of activities when Deputy President Paul Mashatile visited its local municipalities, namely, Rustenburg and Moses Kotane, on 15 and 16 March 2024. During his visit Deputy President Mashatile amongst others, unveiled and handed over newly completed projects and infrastructure to Executive Mayors and communities in the region. These icluded a Primary School to serve Seraleng and Paardekraal communities built to the tune of R26.3 million, a multi million rand Medical Centre in Tlhabane equipped with state of-the art X-Ray equipment, a donation of school shoes, school uniforms, stationery, sanitary towels to learners, and a donation of goats, sheep, cattle, bulls, agricultural equipment and garden tools to subsistence farmers around Boshoek.

‘n Middeljarige vrou (Hettie Kruger) en haar assistent (Vince) van Line-X Protective Coatings in Watervallaan 18 in Rustenburg is Dinsdagmiddag om 14:45 deur sewe onbekende mans in ‘n wit Dyna-4-6-vragmotor met ‘n plat bak sonder registrasienommer met vuurwapens aangehou, vasgebind en van verskeie groottes dromme en kanne olie in wit en rooi houers beroof. Die mans het by die voordeur opgedaag onder die voorwendsel dat hulle ‘n taamlike groot hoeveelheid olie wil koop en daar is toe vir hulle oopgemaak.
Rustenburg’s water shortage far from over
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In the face of a continuing heat wave that appears to have the entire country in a firm grip, the sad news for Rustenburg residents is that the water shortage experienced over the past few weeks throughout the city is more than likely to continue for at least another week, as Rustenburg Executive Mayor - Shiela Mabale-Huma has warned during a press conference held last Tuesday afternoon.
By now probably most of Rustenburg will know that the current water shortage is a result not only of a heat wave with almost unprecedented temperatures around the country,

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) is supplied by 2 bulk water supply boards - Rand Water and Magalies Water. Both the Rand Water and Magalies Water schemes are currently under strain due to reduced water supply.
City Power in Gauteng experienced failure on the feeder board at Eikenof substation, after one of the isolators experienced a flash-over last night. This subsequently affected the dedicated transformer supplying power, to the Rand Water Eikenhof pump station. This pump station dedicates supply to Rustenburg through the Barnardsvlei system.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - 'n Bekende 62-jarige sakeman van Rustenburg en 'n voormalige Rustenburgse sakevrou wat 'n intieme vriendin van die familie is, het Maandagaand omstreeks 20:00 'n noue ontkoming gehad toe 'n komplot wat klaarblyklik daarop gemik was om die twee van hul selfone, kontant en persoonlike besittings en heel waarskynlik die sakeman ('n prominente kontrakteur by Rustenburgse myne) se Toyota Hilux 4x4 te beroof, oënskynlik skeefgeloop en misluk het.
Die sakeman was ongeveer 18:00 tuis toe sy vrou 'n oproep van dié vriendin ontvang waarin sy slaapplek vir die nag gevra het.
Hippo at large
Rustenburg Herald - Kroondal - Strange things have happened in and around Rustenburg in the past! Roughly two years ago a fully grown crocodile was seen crossing the N4 in the vicinity of Kroondal, earlier Rustenburg motorists almost drove into the veld when a local farmer had a young kudu bull accompanying his cattle in the field and leading them with the familiar "cow bell" around its neck. On Monday morning (4 March) motorists on the Bakwena N4 only a few meters from the Kroondal offramp almost overturned their cars when a fully grown hippopotamus was noticed as it appeared to wait on passing traffic before it attempted to cross the N4.
Two police detectives in court for corruption and extortion
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Two Rustenburg detectives, Sgt Yvonne Suzan Sikwani (54) and Constable Bontle Mmudi (41) made their first appearance in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday last week where they have faced charges of corruption and extortion.
The women were granted bail of R1 000 each and will re-appear before the same court on Friday, 31 May 2024.
Multidisciplinary policing operation nets scores of illegal miners & equipment
RUSTENBURG HERALD - NORTH WEST - The SAP's multidisciplinary and crime intelligence driven "Vala Umgodi" operations conducted between Friday, 16 February and Tuesday, 20 February, by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, National Intervention Unit (NIU), Special Task Force (STF), Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Police (POP), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Airwing, Mounted Unit, Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), K9, Visible Policing and Mine security, pounced on 71 illegal immigrants and eight illegal miners in Hebron and Rustenburg respectively.
Critical water shortages over large areas in and around town
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Over the past five to seven days, Rustenburg Herald has been inundated by calls and messages from angry members of various areas in the community to complain about water shortages over a large area throughout and around town.
Despite notices sent out by the Rustenburg Municipality on 17 and 24 February respectively, it seems that an alarming number of consumers never managed to see these notices and were confronted by shortages during the past week totally unprepared.
