BONUS - RUSTENBURG - A swift intelligence-driven operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Rustenburg has led to the arrest of a foreign national and the seizure of counterfeit cigarettes worth more than R 210 000.
According to Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, spokesperson of Bojanala Sub-District 2, on Monday, 29 September, police intercepted a twenty-wheeled truck at East End, after information indicated that illicit goods were being smuggled into the area.

Upon searching the truck, officers discovered 42 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes concealed in the trailer. The driver, a 32-year-old Zimbabwean male, was arrested on the spot.
In addition to the cigarettes, the truck and trailer valued at over R 595 000 were also seized. The suspect is facing charges relating to the possession of illicit cigarettes and remains in police custody pending his first court appearance.
The Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Commissioner, Brig Mamotsamai Ntoagae commended the members involved for their swift response, highlighting that such operations form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit trade networks in the district.
Investigations are continuing, with further intelligence being pursued to trace the origin and distribution routes of the seized consignment.
