BONUS - RUSTENBURG - The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena reiterated that police across the province will continue to squeeze the space for criminals when responding to serious and violent crimes through Operation Shanela, which is focused on enhanced crime prevention and combating.
Consequent to operations conducted between Monday, 11 and Sunday, 17 March 2024, a total of 1 260 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, burglary at business and residential premises to driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition, 53 suspected undocumented persons were taken in for processing by Immigration Officials. During the operations, 170 premises, 1 606 persons and 742 vehicles were searched. Moreover, the police working together with other law enforcement agencies confiscated alcohol, ammunition, cash, cellular phones, contraband goods, a variety of drugs, seven handguns, 122 kilograms of copper cables, tobacco products and vehicles.
The Provincial Commissioner welcomed the results attained and encouraged law enforcement agencies to work hard towards building safer communities.
