Four new speed humps which were erected in Cuckoo Avenue Rustenburg  over the weekend literally became the talk of the town with residents and motorists flocking to social media in great numbers to point out the pros and cons of these “traffic calming devices”. According to DA Cllr Tanya Rothman of Ward 17, the new speed humps have been necessitated following constant complaints of reckless driving and speeding by motorists in the area over the course of the past two years.

While most people have welcomed the new speed humps, many have questioned the use of “non-standard” practices in the construction process, claiming that the humps are too “short” and too high with a high risk of damage to low profile vehicles. This photograph was taken at one of the new speed humps on Monday morning when Cllr Tanya Rothman returned to the area for a site visit. It has since been decided that the speed humps will be smoothed out by extending the surface area and the addition of chevron signs to warn approaching motorists.
