Lentswe, Jouberton - AGA Sechaba together with Tigane Advice Centre, Justice & Peace, Monna Sechabeng, Jouberton Legal Advice Centre and churches have decided to intervene in the ever-growing problems of rampant unemployment and help recipients of the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants being declined on a daily basis in Matlosana by SASSA.
Many unemployed applicants receive rejections from SASSA on a daily basis whilst those that have been receiving the grant are being chopped at any point by the agency if their relatives or family members deposit any amount into their accounts to augment the R350 they are receiving from the state.
The NGOs plan to meet with Fanie Sethokga, NW SASSA Manager for SRD, to address these illegal, unconstitutional and unilateral ultra-vires actions of the agency that denies qualifying applicant’s access to the grant on manufactured or engineered grounds with no substantiation.
The NGO’s are also concerned about the lack of employment opportunities for local people. Another meeting will be held with the West End-based Office of the Premier, municipal Managers, business chambers, mines and managers of big retailers to dig deep into this problem and come up with solutions.
NGOs will be going around Matlosana to meet unemployed people to take up their R350 issues with SASSA as well as their problems with accessing job opportunities. All meetings will start at 10:00 at the following venues and dates: November 23 at Jouberton Hall, Alabama Hall December 4, December 5 in Khuma (venue to be confirmed), Kanana and Vaal Reefs on December 6 at Kanana Hall and December 7 at Tigane Hall.
All unemployed people are urged to make photocopies of their IDs and write down their addresses and contact numbers. This is a community service and no one should pay the NGOs or anybody anything.
