Lentswe, Stilfontein - The NW Provincial Commissio-ner, Lt-Gen General Sello Kwena, welcomed the arrest and subsequent appearance of a 39-year-old police sergeant in the Stilfontein Ma-gistrates’ Court last week, for defeating the ends of justice and perjury. “One of the members deployed for Vala Umgodi Operations arrested a foreign national for contravention of the Immigration Act. He further handed a statement from Department of Home Affairs confirming the (illegal) status of the foreign national to the investigating officer, Sgt Mmokwa Ratshoke, attached to Stilfontein Detectives.

Allegedly, Ratshoke took the docket to court without the statement from Department of Home Affairs and the case was as a result, withdrawn.

The matter was reported to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) for investigation and the accused was nabbed,” said Brig Sa-bata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson. Ratshoke was granted R1 500 bail and the case was postponed until November 1, for further investigation.
