Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development chaired has expressed sadness over the disturbing rise of teenage pregnancy in North West.
Chairperson Karabo Magagane said the Committee is dismayed by recent media reports highlighting a disturbing rise in teenage pregnancies in the province. “This crisis came into sharp focus during the Premier’s visit to Joe Morolong Regional Hospital in Vryburg on New Year’s Day.
More illegal miners arrested
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The ongoing “Vala Umgodi” operations in the Bojanala Platinum and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Districts continues to achieve successes. According to Col Adéle Myburgh, police spokesperson, the police arrested six males on New Year’s Day in Hartbeespoort for illegal mining and contravening the Immigration Act. The males, between the ages of 28 and 55 are from Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi. During the operation, items such as jack hammers, shovels, generators, gold bearing material and explosives were seized.”
Agri colleges set to welcome new students
Lentswe, Potchefstroom - The Potchefstroom College of Agriculture and Taung Agricultural College are gearing up to commence the 2025 academic year. Both institutions will reopen on Monday January 13, and preparations are underway for the registration of first-year and returning students.
Husband up for murder
Lentswe, Vryburg - The investigation into the tragic death of Boitumelo Molapo has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of her husband, Lorato. Boitumelo from Klerksdorp was found dead at her rented house in Vryburg on September 22 2022. “The suspect was arrested on December 19 in Klerksdorp,” said Lt-Col Sam Tselanyane, police spokesperson.
Load-shedding remains suspended
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Last week Friday January 3, Eskom reached 282 consecutive days without implementing load-shedding. According to Eskom this signals structural improvements in generation performance and has also resulted in year-to-date diesel savings of R16.52 billion. The plan has recently enabled the successful return of Koeberg Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 to the national grid on December 30.
