Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association (Tiska) hosted its highly anticipated national and international championship on September 12 and 13. The event brought together karateka from across South Africa and abroad, including a strong team from England, in a weekend filled with discipline, determination, and world-class karate. Adding prestige to the championship was the presence of Tiska’s founder, Gursharan Sahota, who travelled specially to attend the event.

In the days leading up to the tournament, Sahota, Chief Instructor (9th Dan), conducted intensive training seminars and oversaw Dan gradings, giving students a rare opportunity to refine their skills under expert guidance.

The competition itself was a display of true Shotokan spirit, with athletes from both nations showing exceptional technical ability and fighting spirit.

In the Team Kata division, Team England impressed with their precision and harmony, claiming the top honours. Team South Africa, meanwhile, showcased resilience and power to secure victory in the Team Kumite division.

The championship not only highlighted the strength of karate in both countries but also reinforced the values of respect, unity, and international friendship that TISKA stands for.
