MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The North West Housing Corporation (NWHC) has appointed four reputable companies - Lesego La Masego Group, MHRB Debt Collection, IBC Forensic and Recovery, and SL Debt Recovery - to provide debt collection services for outstanding payments owed to the Corporation.
The appointed companies will address the long-standing arrears on legacy properties and support the sustainability of NWHC’s operations, ensuring continued affordable housing services in the North West province and neighbouring areas.
These service providers will be tasked with managing overdue rental and purchase debt across NWHC’s housing portfolio, including properties under rental agreements and those being purchased through installment plans.
This step is part of NWHC’s ongoing efforts to improve financial management and efficiently recover outstanding debts, especially related to legacy properties where arrears have built up over time.
The appointed companies will identify individuals and entities with overdue payments, using tools such as credit bureau information, background checks, loan documents, and other resources to trace tenants and homeowners who have not made payments. Their goal will be to establish suitable repayment plans and terms. They will also assist debtors by referring them to debt counsellors when needed and report delinquent accounts to credit bureaus, clearing records once debts are paid in full.
Regular monthly reports on debt recovery efforts will be provided to NWHC, ensuring transparency throughout the process. The companies will also maintain up-to-date tenant records, issue monthly rental payments and balance statements for those on installment plans, and handle tenant inquiries. Additionally, they will ensure that the Debt Management System remains accessible to NWHC for monitoring and reporting. This initiative specifically targets arrears accumulated on legacy properties and aims to recover essential funds to continue providing housing services.
The service providers will collaborate closely with the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) and NWHC’s legal team to manage arrears, conduct audits, and assess potential write-offs.
They will communicate with debtors through various methods, including phone, SMS, email, or fax, and may issue 24-hour notices or negotiate payment arrangements, if necessary. In cases of default, they will follow up on agreements and, if needed, involve legal services for eviction or judgment enforcement. NWHC remains committed to supporting tenants throughout this process. Tenants are encouraged to contact the NWHC Debtors and Revenue Unit with any concerns or questions regarding debt recovery or repayment options. This initiative aims to recover outstanding debts, allowing NWHC to continue meeting the housing needs of the community.
