MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: One of the memorable stalwarts of the North West, Aziz Pahad’s was celebrated through a Memorial Lecture at the Mahikeng Campus of the North West University, where it was expected for Former President Thabo Mbeki to give a lecture on the life of Pahad.
The event hosted under theme ‘The insurgent diplomat: Lessons from the life and legacy of Aziz Pahad’ reflected on the role played by Pahad in promoting the country’s foreign policy in the early years of democracy and shaping the post-apartheid South African government’s approach to international relations. The Pahad Lecture was also honoured by the presence of Mrs Pahad, who gave insight on her late husband’s life and his contribution in the liberation struggle of South Africa. She was honoured with a portrait of her late husband drawn by Setilo Goldish, who is a visual art artist.
The lecture was attended by the Premier of the North West Mr Lazurus Mokgosi, Professor Bismark Tyobeka (NWU Vice Chancellor), Dr Phenyo Butale (Minister of International Relations Botswana), Professor Angina Parekh (who is the wife to the late Aziz Pahad) and members of the Executive Council.
