RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - On Saturday, 29 November, Waterval East residents demonstrated remarkable unity and determination as volunteers, local businesses, and community organisations joined forces for a large-scale cleanup initiative along Line Road.
The event, coordinated by the newly formed, ambition-driven community movement #GoTeam42, showcased the power of collective action from residents to improve their surroundings during this full-day operation.
Volunteers worked tirelessly from the morning hours until the early afternoon, tackling some of the area’s most neglected and debris-heavy sections.
The cleanup operation drew support from a wide range of partners - from traffic control to waste management, logistics, on-site support, and hydration - enabling volunteers to work safely and efficiently throughout the day.
The heart of the day’s success came from residents themselves. Among the volunteers were Philile from Shangrila Estate and Winny from Elephants View, who contributed hands-on. Their participation reflects a growing recognition that meaningful change starts with the people who call the neighbourhood home.
While the team made substantial progress, organisers emphasise that this initiative is only the beginning. #GoTeam42 has clear plans to expand its efforts throughout Waterval East and surrounding areas. A follow-up operation is already in the works to complete outstanding tasks on Line Road, with additional community cleanups to be announced soon.
#GoTeam42 operates strictly as a non-political, resident-driven collective, supported by local partners and businesses. The movement distances itself from political affiliation and focuses solely on uplifting the community through service, unity, and transparent collaboration. Its approach is beginning to resonate, drawing interest from residents who see the value and excitement of a hands-on, solutions-driven community effort.
The Line Road initiative marks an important step toward building a cleaner, safer, and more connected Waterval East. With growing interest and continued involvement, #GoTeam42 is steadily establishing itself as a platform where residents can be active participants in shaping the future of their neighbourhood.
