RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG/SWARTRUGGENS - With the festive season right around the corner, the “criminal season”, unfortunately, has also arrived.
An increase in spiking (as well as other items to obstruct motorist’s way on roads) has been reported in the last few days. One of these incidents took place on Friday, 15 November at approximately 20:05 on the N4 Platinum Highway.
At least one vehicle and two heavy motor vehicles were spiked at the same location, approximately 20 km before Rustenburg (from direction Swartruggens). In this instance, all the spiking victims managed to drive to safety until help arrived, although one victim’s tire was extensively damaged.
Members of the public are reminded to be especially vigilant this holiday season and to not stop in deserted areas but rather drive to a safe location.
Important safety reminders:
- Keep driving until help arrives
- Reduce speed, avoid slamming on brakes
- Hold steering wheel tightly
- Join/Follow social media groups where warnings of these events are posted, such as the Northwest Traffic and Protest Channel / Noordwes Verkeer en Protes Kanaal.
