RUSTENBURG HERALD - BOITEKONG - A 31-year-old mother and her 26-year-old boyfriend were arrested last week Thursday, 4 July for the alleged murder of her four-year-old boy.
Reports revealed that, the couple allegedly killed the toddler last year and buried him in a shallow grave in the bushes on the outskirts of Boitekong. Subsequent to the incident, residents of Extension 4, became suspicious when they did not see the child anymore. According to information, the child was last seen by neighbours in July 2023. They started asking questions, but the mother would make up stories.

Under persistent pressure from the community, who decided to involve their Councillor, the mother finally confessed to the horrific crime and her boyfriend also confirmed his involvement in the murder. Consequently, the Councillor and members of the community handed over the mother and her boyfriend to the police and they were charged with murder. They were expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 July.
A respresentative of the community, Thomas Rapula said the confessions sent “shockwaves” through the community.  “This tragic event has left the boy’s biological father and the entire community in deep grief and outrage. It has also raised serious questions about the initial handling of the case and the delays in uncovering the truth.  The community is calling for thorough scrutiny and swift justice to ensure such a tragedy never happens again. The community is anxiously waiting for justice to be served and for more details to emerge as the investigation continues.” The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and at the same time congratulated the members of the community for not taking the law into their own hands and working together with the police in arresting the suspects. He instructed the detectives to do everything in their power to ensure that justice is served.
