Baby Spar Proteas secure place at the Youth Championships
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The final day of the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 Africa Regional Qualifiers started off with a match between Namibia taking on Kenya for 5th/6th playoff.
Namibia came into Saturday’s match with two wins while Kenya had one. At the end of the sixty minutes, it was Kenya who won 50 - 42 to secure fifth place position.
The second match which was 3rd/4th playoff was between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The winner of this match would also secure a spot in Gibraltar next year.
Vastrap-swemmers presteer
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Baie geluk aan die swemmers van Laerskool Vastrap wat op 8 Maart aan die Mooirivier Prestige-gala in Potchefstroom deelgeneem het.
Die seunspan was eerste en die dogters tweede. Laerskool Vastrap het 'n algehele tweede plek behaal.
Baby Spar Proteas continue on a winning streak after three matches
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Baby SPAR Proteas started off day three of the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 Regional Qualifiers on Tuesday 19 March with a clash against Kenya and the hosts were looking to continue their winning run in this competition.
The Baby SPAR Proteas made some personnel changes in the second half of the match with coach Precious looking to give some fresh legs a run and rest some of the players who had a run. In the end, it was South Africa who claimed all maximum points winning the match 70 -16.
Cape Town Cycle Tour
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The 46th Cape Town Cycle Tour, the biggest timed bike race in the world, was held on Sunday, 10 March
– 109km route. Well done to the Rustenburg Cycling Club members who have participated and trained for this event to achieve a first time goal and to others many more than once.
Each year memories are made in beautiful Cape Town on their bicycles – the sport that they love.
Rassie Erasmus met ‘n eredoktorsgraad van die Noordwes Universiteit vereer
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Die Noordwes-Universiteit (NWU) gaan ’n eredoktorsgraad toeken aan die Springbok-hoofafrigter en voormalige SA Rugby se Direkteur van Rugby, Johan “Rassie” Erasmus, wat Suid-Afrika gehelp het om die Rugby Wêreldbeker te wen.
Die NWU Raad het die besluit tydens hulle gewone vergadering op Donderdag 16 November 2023 goedgekeur. Die versoek vir die toekenning van die graad Philosophiae Doctor (Honoris Causa) in Afrigtingkunde, is deur die NWU se Fakulteit Gesondheidswetenskappe ingedien. Die eredoktorsgraad gaan aan Erasmus toegeken word ter erkenning van sy innoverende en buitengewone bestuur van die Springbokke tydens hulle oorwinnings in 2019 en 2023 se Wêreldbekertoernooie, sy besondere posisie in die internasionale rugby-afrigtersarena, sy sterk dryfkrag en fokus op diversiteit en inklusiwiteit, en sy verbintenis tot maatskaplike verantwoordelikheid.
Shimlas outscore Eagles in try fest, Maties and Ikeys move up the log
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - FNB UFS Shimlas dug deep for a well-earned victory at home over defending champions FNB NWU Eagles in round three of the 2024 FNB Varsity Cup.
Wet weather prevailed in the Western Cape where FNB Maties ran out victors over FNB Wits, FNB UCT Ikeys beat FNB UJ and FNB CUT handed FNB UWC their third straight defeat.
FNB UFS Shimlas made it back-to-back wins by beating their big rivals FNB NWU Eagles 35-26 in Bloemfontein. This was thanks to a last-second try by the replacement flanker, Henri van Heerden.
Larries Boogskiet presteer by Buffelspoort Karnaval
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Larries boogskiet het op Saterdag, 2 Maart aan die Buffelspoort Karnaval boogskietkompetisie by ATKV Buffelspoort deelgeneem.
Die Larrieskuts het hul mooi van hul taak gekwyt en pragtig presteer in die primêre-afdeling. Die eerstespan het met die eerste plek weggestap in die primêre-afdeling met ‘n telling van 3087 uit 3600 en is aangewys as Buffelspoort Karnaval primêre-kampioene vir 2024. Die Larries boogskietspan het 'n uitstekende vertoning gelewer.
Training with World Champions
What an absolute honour. The Tokon Shotokan Karate A/C recently had the privilege to be trained by Sensei Laurent and Sensei Nicholas Bellegarde, both World Champions and multiple medal winners in WUKF. They visited Rustenburg and shared their knowledge as Rustenburg Tokon Shotokan Karate @ TSKKIA All styles prepare to take part at the WUKF World Championships in PE and then in Mexico later this year. The Tokon Shotokan Karate A/C is entering 68 students and is by far the largest group to enter as representatives of Rustenburg.
Casmar Rustenburg Impala off to a great start
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Casmar Rustenburg Impala Rugby Club has another feather in its cap with two excellent victories against Roodepoort Rugby Club in Rustenburg on Saturday. From the turnout by local supporters it was clear that Rustenburg crowds are hungry for local rugby and the clash was well supported.
In the game between Casmar Rustenburg Impala's 1st team, the home team managed no less than five tries to win by 33-21. A fine "outing" for Rustenburg Impala indeed.
