Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) in North West on Wednesday November 27 appealed to matriculants and other learners not to engage in destructive pen down parties to celebrate the completion of their exams.
“While a great future awaits them if they pass their exams, they should bear in mind that their conduct in the interim will determine whether they will attain their goals and dreams,” observed Convenor of the MRM Provincial Interim Committee, Pastor Lesiba Kgwele.

He condemned a reported violent mob attack on a learner at English Secondary School in Lichtenburg allegedly linked to gangsterism.

The said attack resulted in the victim being admitted in hospital due to stab wounds which were inflicted on him on Tuesday afternoon.

He cautioned that engagement in deplorable acts such as drinking binges, reckless driving, drug abuse, violence and other irresponsible behavior have the potential to destroy precious lives of those who engage in such activities.

Kgwele congratulated all the learners for their hard work and the discipline they had exercised throughout their exams.

He urged them not to tear their school uniform after writing their last exam papers but instead donate it to the needy at their respective schools and within their communities.

”We trust that they will continue to remain responsible during the Mahika-Mahikeng Festival as well as throughout the Christmas and New Year Season and not engage in appalling conduct that have the potential to rob them of their future,” he stressed.

Kgwele urged them in their excitement and celebratory mood not to be enticed to drop their guard, but to be vigilant against opportunistic crime, gender-based violence and human trafficking.

He appealed to tavern owners and other licensed liquor outlets not to sell alcohol to underage young people.

“All of us must adopt community values that nurture our young people and contribute towards their upliftment and development as our future, therefore we have a responsibility to report transgressors,” he underscored.
