Lentswe, Jouberton - The North West Department of Health in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District will commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Brazil Stadium on Thursday October 31.
The event is aimed at raising awareness and providing health education on breast and prostate cancer. According to Motsamai Moloi, the acting district health services chief director, the department is targeting to reach at least 300 people who will receive various health testing and screening services. The day will commence with a fun walk from 06:00, then proceed to aerobics while health education and services provision continues all day.
Communities around the Jouberton area are encouraged to take this opportunity, to arm themselves with critical information on different health conditions and how to lead a long, healthy quality life. Among the services that will be provided, are different testing and screening services including HIV, TB, Chest xray, blood sugar, blood pressure, medical male circumcision bookings and Body Mass Index (BMI).
“This event gives us an opportunity to educate our communities on facts and myths about breast and other cancers. We will also have a chance to trace and re-initiate treatment defaulters,” said Moloi.
He said the district is always ready to re-initiate and initiate treatment for various illnesses or refer immediately after testing and screening, to avoid late presentation, which always proves to be harder to treat at a later stage.
