Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Matlosana municipality is actively engaged in supporting local learners as schools reopen for the 2026 academic year, with two separate back-to-school initiatives this week spearheaded by its executive leadership. Both campaigns aim to ensure students are well-prepared and motivated for their studies. On Wednesday January 14, Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe embarked on a “Back to School Drive” across various schools in Matlosana.

The mayor’s visits are intended to monitor school readiness for the new academic year and offer moral support to both learners and educators. His schedule includes a stop at Leseding Primary School in Khuma, where he donated school shoes to students in need. He extended his well wishes to all embarking on the new academic journey.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Speaker of Council, led by Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya, has just concluded its own successful “Back 2 School” campaign in Khuma. The event, held from January 12 to 13, provided essential practical support to learners. Services offered included free haircuts, cornrows for girls, and protective book covering, aimed at easing the financial and practical burdens on families as school resumes.

“We are thrilled to have made a difference in the lives of our learners,” stated Cllr Mondlane-Ngwenya, expressing gratitude to everyone involved in the campaign’s success.
