Lentswe, Kanana - The acting executive mayor of Matlosana, Cllr Wesley Kgang, officially launched the reconstruction of outside waterborne toilets in Kanana last week. Cllr Kgang was accompanied by MMC of Infrastructure Cllr Steferd Barrends, Kanana ward councillors, Director of Infrastructure Nelson Mongale, officials, consultants, and contractors on Friday October 11. The project aims to upgrade and refurbish the existing full waterborne sanitation system, especially the outside toilet structures in wards 20, 24, and 26.

The project commenced on September 30 and is expected to be completed by February 2026, spanning a duration of 18 months.

Kgang emphasized that the primary objective of the oversight visit was to ensure that the municipality evaluates the progress of the projects. He highlighted that one of the challenges they encountered was the pit toilet backlog within Matlosana.

He stressed to the contractor the importance of ensuring that local SMMEs are given the opportunity to grow and that all stakeholders must be involved in the project from inception to completion. Furthermore, the project will provide work opportunities and training to the local community.
