Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Matlosana Municipality launched a Youth Development Council on Saturday October 5 in the Office of the Mayor. The forum was established as an initiative aimed at addressing challenges faced by young people in the region. Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe, councillors, ward representatives along with notable figures such as Dr Bongani Mahlangu from the South African Youth Council (SAYC), Karabo Mondlane, SAYC District Coordinator and Masoso Mosupa, youth activist were in attendance.

Mahlophe highlighted the city’s struggles with unemployment, poverty and inequality and expressed his vision for a fair employment landscape that values skills and experience, free from discrimination and nepotism. He further outlined plans to enhance Local Economic Development through incubation programs for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to ensure their sustainability. Dr Mahlangu motivated young attendees to upskill and engage with socio-economic issues, encouraging them to influence policy direction on behalf of the youth.
