Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A Klerksdorp teen was crowned first princess in the Miss Teenager South Africa pageant. Basetsana Letsoalo (16) was crowned on December 7 at Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park. She described the experience as surreal. “When I was crowned, the crown felt less like an achievement and more like a responsibility I was ready - and excited - to carry. I will never forget it nor the journey that led me there.’’ She said she knew that stepping into pageantry wasn’t about the stage lights or the sparkly dresses but about purpose. “It was about using my voice and my heart in ways that could genuinely touch others. My platform focuses on advocating for children and adolescents, especially those who navigate life without the full support they deserve.’’

That passion led her to Khaya Tshepo Home of Hope for vulnerable children, a place she says, has changed her life. “Working with the children there has taught me about resilience, hope, and the pure beauty of community. Every visit reminded me why I wanted to step onto that stage - not for applause, but to amplify silent stories. To stand for the young people who deserve to feel seen, heard, and supported.

“My journey in the pageant pushed me far beyond comfort zones. Between interviews, rehearsals and the pressure of national competition, I found myself constantly returning to the same reminder: Do this for them.’’

Basetsana plans to continue her work at Khaya Tshepo and to reach even more young people across South Africa.

Her journey, highlights and moments from the competition will be broadcast on MTV Channel 130 on December 22. Follow her on @basetsana_letsoalo on Instagram and Basetsana Letsoalo on Facebook.
